There are a lot of opinions and theories out there about how to write the perfect query letter. Here is the secret. THERE IS NO PERFECT WAY TO WRITE A QUERY LETTER. Every agent is different, every agency is looking for different things. What we teach here is that an effective query letter shows an agent or publisher if your book is a good fit for them.

This class begins with a series of questions that will lead you to the most effective pitch possible. We will go step by step through the process of identifying the most unique and sellable aspects of your manuscript and focusing on them. We will address HOW to address an agent or editor when cold-querying and go over the different ways to approach the process of introducing yourself and your work to your dream agent. Having taken the COMP class would be helpful but not required.

What We Will Do During This Class: 

  • Write various subject and log lines for maximum impact
  • Create an opening statement that will charm and keep the agent reading
  • Learn how to QUICKLY provide a plot overview and put the most compelling and unique aspects of your story out front
  • Hold a class discussion with Amy where you can ask her any and all questions
  • Show you the 5 elements that every query letter should have (even if each author’s version of those 5 things looks different.
  • Make sure you end up with the best query letter possible!
